Please note that all attendees to our events will be required to wear face masks when not actively consuming food or beverages.  This applies to indoor meetings/events as well as outdoor events.  All attendees must also adhere to the most up to date campus' safety guidelines regarding in-person events.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at brc@ucsd.edu.

Wednesday, September 22nd

Welcome Back Open House

  • Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm
  • Location: Black Resource Center
  • An opportunity for the UC San Diego community to visit the Black Resource Center, meet the staff members, and learn about some of the programs and events planned for the Fall Quarter.

Black CommUNITY Cookout

  • Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Location: Original Student Center Plaza (beneath the Black Resource Center)
  • An opportunity for Black students, staff, faculty, and alumni to come together and make new connections, listen to music, and enjoy great food as we welcome the community back to campus.

Black Transfer Student Social

  • Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm
  • Location: Black Resource Center
  • An opportunity for our Black transfer student population to come together to meet other Black transfers and learn about the new UMOJA student organization.

Black Student Speed Friending Social

  • Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Location: Stonehenge (Revelle College)
  • An opportunity for Black students to engage in fun icebreakers and games to get to know other students and find common ground with interests, aspirations, hobbies, and more!

Peer Guidance Program Meet & Greet

  • An opportunity for new Black students (both first-years, transfers, and any interested second-years) to learn more about the BRC's Peer Guidance Program and how they can sign-up to be a part of the program.

Black Graduate and Professional Student Welcome Reception

  • Time: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
  • Location: Dirty Birds (Price Center)
  • An opportunity for new Black Graduate and Professional Students to learn about campus resources specific to this population including the new Black Graduate Experience Living Learning Community (BGELLC) and the Black Graduate and Professional Students Association (BGPSA).  We will also have a student panel as well as a faculty/staff panel to help students learn about their experiences and have an opportunity to network.

Peer Guidance Program Meet & Greet

Job Talk Series: Amazon Area Manager

  • Time: 3:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Virtual Event
  • Join us for the first session of our Job Talk Series! This session we will be joined by a representative from Amazon to talk through an opportunity as an Area Manager.  As an Area Manager, you will lead a large team of 20-200 hourly associates in a fast-paced production warehouse environment. Your main role as an Area Manager is to motivate, coach, and engage with your associates. You will be asked to innovate and simplify. The Area Manager role empowers you to take ownership in running a department efficiently, make changes that can have major impacts on the business.

Homecoming Weekend Black Alumni Mixer

  • Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Location: Dirty Birds (Price Center)
  • Join the Black Resource Center and Black Alumni Council for a special mixer for our Black Alumni as we prepare for UC San Diego's annual Homecoming Weekend!  This event will be an opportunity to network with other Black Alumni and learn more about opportunities within the Black Alumni Council and Black Resource Center.
    • To keep our community safe, all UC San Diego guests must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test (taken within 48 hours) before attending any in-person campus event.   • Join the Black Resource Center for a night in community as we bond through talking about black hair and sharing our stories. This event is also an opportunity to promote yourself if you braid or cut hair or simply want to discuss your next hairstyle plans.

  • Join the Black Resource Center for a résumé writing workshop led by staff from the Career Center at UC San Diego's Rady School of Management. Bring your questions and a copy of your resume to receive some professional tips on how to make your résumé stand out!

Black Hair: Rooting Ourselves in Self Love

  • Time: 6:00pm - 7:30pm
  • Virtual Event
  • During this presentation, author St. Clair will discuss what she's learned through almost a four-year-long journey photographing and interviewing 101 Black women with natural hair for her forthcoming photojournalism book, My Beautiful Black Hair: 101 Natural Hair Stories from the Sisterhood, a large-scale visual anthropology exploring the deep, complex relationships across generations between Black women and their hair.
