Student Success Series
Our Student Success Series currently consists of two of our signature programs: Black Family Orientation and Mid-Year Mixer. Both of these programs were created to maximize the holistic success of incoming Black students at UC San Diego. Learn more about both programs below!
Black Family Orientation
Start your academic career off right with the Black Resource Center! The Black Family Orientation (previously known as the Student Success Institute) takes place during move-in weekend every year. This program is designed to maximize the success of incoming Black first-year and transfer students by providing information that will position them to make a smooth transition into life at UC San Diego, while highlighting valuable campus resources. Participants will engage in activities that address their personal and academic development, academic expectations, cultural adjustment as well as the opportunity to network with other incoming students, staff, and faculty.
- FREE and open to incoming first-time and transfer students and their families.
- Information for the 2021 Black Family Orientation will be provided closer to the start of the 2021-2022 academic year.
Mid-Year Mixer
Every year during Week 5 of Winter Quarter, the Black Resource Center hosts the Mid-Year Mixer which is an opportunity to bring the Black campus community together to check-in with each other midway through the academic year. The Mid-Year Mixer serves as a follow-up to the Black Family Orientation to re-emphasize some of the principles, resources, and programs highlighted at the beginning of the year to ensure that students have the support that they need to continue to excel throughout their time at UC San Diego. Make sure that you are subscribed to our e-newsletter so that you may stay informed on events such as the Mid-Year Mixer throughout the year!
