Are you a first year, freshman or transfer? First entering into UC San Diego can be very overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. The Peer Guidance Program is here to help you academically, socially, and culturally adjust to life at UC San Diego.
The Black Resource Center's Peer Guidance Program is designed to aid the academic, social and cultural adjustment of incoming first-year students to life at UC San Diego.Through peer mentoring, incoming students are matched with a continuing student Peer Guidance Leader, who have gone through similar challenges during their adjustment to college. Peer Guidance Leaders will create goals, foster community, and aid as overall guides for success.
The Peer Guidance Program is a peer to peer mentorship program open to all new, incoming students, with an emphasis on supporting and uplifting the UC San Diego Black student experience. Through mentorship relationships and building community, the overall aim is to positively impact the first year adjustment and ultimate retention of student mentees.
"My experience with the Peer Guidance Program was phenomenal thanks to my Peer Guidance Leader. She was so helpful with any question I had and would always go above and beyond to give me additional resources. I also felt I was able to gain a genuine bond with her so I know we will keep in touch." - 2022-2023 Peer Mentee
"As a mentee, I felt supported and connected to the Black community on campus. My mentor was a big help in bridging my experience from a diverse high school to feeling comfortable in a historically white institution." - 2023-2024 Peer Mentee
